What are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal filler is clear, gel-like medical injectable made of hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occuring sugar in the body, that is used to restore volume loss, lift, plump, contour, sculpt and hydrate the aging face, neck, and other body areas. As we age we lose facial volume, collagen and elastin in our skin, and even our bony structure changes, all contributing to what we see in the mirror. Dermal filler is a safe and effective non-surgical way to address sagging cheeks, smile lines, under eye hollows, jowls, thinning lips, and fine lines. Additionally dermal filler can be used to fill the temple hollows, contour and enhance the chin and jawline, and even rejuvenate aging hands and earlobes.
Dermal filler is not one size fits all. We have many different fillers to choose from depending on your anatomy and your desired outcome. At R+H our experienced medical providers will take the time to listen to your concerns and formulate a specialized treatment plan just for you to achieve your desired outcome.
Dermal fillers are popular with younger patients to elevate the cheek bones, define the chin and jawline, and plump the lips. For mature patients we can address global facial aging and volume loss for a refreshed and rejuvenated look that reverses the signs of aging with a natural, refreshed look.

Heidi Young, PAC, Co-Founder R+H Aesthetic Medicine
Physician Associate, 24 years | Aesthetic Injector, 14 years
Heidi began her medical career in NYC, at a Level 1 Trauma Center in the Emergency Department, where she practiced for 2 years before transitioning to the specialty of orthopedic surgery. She worked at the Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC, specializing in sports medicine and joint replacement surgery, where she had the opportunity to be a part of the medical staff for NFL, NBA, and college sports teams. She was also honored to be a guest instructor at the Cornell Medical School Physician Assistant Program. In 2009, Heidi relocated to Santa Monica, CA, and joined a private orthopedic practice specializing in spine surgery. Around this time, she had her first BOTOX treatment, and her love for aesthetic medicine was born! Wanting to share with others the sense of rejuvenation and refreshed confidence that she had experienced following her own treatment, her journey as an aesthetic Physician Assistant began. Heidi was lucky enough to join a growing medical spa in the Los Angeles area, Beverly Hills Rejuvenation Center. She continued to work in both aesthetics and orthopedic surgery until relocating to Rocklin, California in 2018. In 2019, following her passion and love for aesthetics, she and her husband, Dr Rei Young, opened R+H Aesthetic Medicine. Today, Heidi continues to combine her love of medicine with the ability to bring out the inner beauty in her patients at R+H. She is a perfectionist with a conservative approach and prides herself on helping her patients become the best version of themselves. Her many years of surgical experience has taught her the importance of symmetry and precision, and this is conveyed in her aesthetic practice. She takes her time with her patients, listening to and hearing their concerns while formulating a specialized plan to help them age beautifully and slowly.

Heidi is absolutely the best! I've been doing Botox and filler for over 15 years and I've never had someone as good as her. I'm so lucky I found her through a referral a few years ago. She has just an amazing eye & knows exactly where I need filler and Botox without me having to say anything! Her work is so natural nothing looks overdone. Her Botox skills are A++++! I feel so confident when I go to see her! We've been slowly building jawline filler, and my jaw is looking great! To anyone that comes across this gem of a place consider yourself beautiful! –S.M.
I heavily researched my options when picking an injector. I called to make an appointment with Katie for lip filler and the front desk girl was so nice and extremely knowledgeable with pre- appointment instructions. When I checked in she greeted me with a smile and again was so kind. I picked Katie because she has shown amazing results on her instagram, how she talked on her instagram about patient care, and educating patients through that platform was a major green flag for me. She made sure I was comfortable before and during my appointment, she did exactly what I asked for and educated me on future appointments. I could not be happier with my results, they look so natural and beautiful. She is my injector for life. –K.B.
Absolutely loved my experience with Joni. This was my first time getting lip fillers mainly because I'm a baby (feared the pain) and feared the dreaded duck lips. I wanted more volume without the lip filler look. Joni was so delicate and gentle with me. Felt the same as Botox! I was able to do a half a syringe and then at my four week touch up we just did a quarter of a syringe. They look stunning - just perfect. Would recommend 10/10. I will be back. –M.M.
My sister referred me to R+H because she was so happy with her lip filler, and I am SO glad she did! I received the same procedure by Heidi, who also did hers. I am SO happy with my results, and the experience was just as great. Heidi is so nice and informative. She and her staff went out of their way to make me feel comfortable and confident. The receptionist greeted us upon arrival, and even remembered my sister by name because she remembered her. The medical assistant who got me set up was wonderful and informative as well. The whole experience was amazing and everyone was so professional and nice.
Heidi texted me the next morning to ask how I was doing and to make sure I was satisfied and feeling good. I would 1,000% recommend R+H to anyone thinking about receiving the procedure that they are wanting. I will definitely be going back! –B.W.
Katie and her staff are amazing! I received my first ever lip and chin filler and I'm more than happy with the results so far. Katie has now recommended me with some skin care for rosacea and eczema and I can't wait to see the results of these products! Katie & her staff have given me a new meaning to beauty & confidence! I never thought the look I wanted was achievable, and by just adding in the smallest of changes, I am happier than ever with how I look and feel on the inside. –M.D.

Dermal Fillers FAQS
How long do Dermal Fillers last?
Results vary and depend on the amount of product used, type of product used, site of injection, and your individual metabolism. Typical results last 6 months - 2 years. The more regularly you maintain your dermal filler treatments, the longer they typically last before requiring a touch-up.
What is the downtime and recovery time expected with Dermal Filler?
It is common to experience swelling and bruising following dermal filler procedures. The majority of swelling and bruising resolves within a week, but it can take up to a full two weeks for some bruises to heal. We recommend scheduling your dermal filler procedure at least two weeks from any important events to allow for healing. As dermal filler is an implant complete healing can take 6-8 weeks, but most swelling and bruising will resolve in the first 2 weeks.
What can I do to minimize bruising and swelling associated with Dermal Filler and Medical Injectable procedures?
To minimize bruising and swelling we recommend the following: discontinue any anti-inflammatory medications (ibuprofen, Aleve, aspirin, Motrin, Advil, turmeric, fish oils, Vitamin E, other supplements) 7 days before your injectable procedure, avoid alcohol for 2 days prior to your procedure, avoid caffeine or stimulants for a few hours before your procedure. Additionally, you may use Arnica tablets the evening before and the morning of your procedure to help minimize bruising.
What is the difference between Wrinkle Relaxers and Dermal Fillers?
Wrinkle Relaxers (Botox/Dysport) work by inhibiting muscle movement so they are ideal for treating wrinkles of the forehead, between the brows, and around the eyes. Dermal fillers help to restore lost volume, enhance facial structure or define facial features so they are ideal for areas like lips, cheeks, under eye hollows, temples and jawlines.
Are Dermal Fillers safe?
Yes, Dermal Fillers are safe and have a very low risk of adverse reactions (HA is a naturally occurring sugar in the body) and are backed by decades of scientific clinical studies. When performed by an experienced, well trained R+H Aesthetic Medicine injector, complications are very rare. Common side effects include swelling and bruising, but this is self limiting and resolves within a few days to 2 weeks. Our expert providers will review all of the potential side effects and possible complications related to Dermal Fillers before your treatment and will make sure all of your questions and concerns are answered.
