As we age, superficial and deep muscles can actually pull our face and skin into expressions that make us look older. With less of the supporting tissue underneath to counteract the actions of these muscles, our skin can start to form wrinkles. Dermal fillers are mostly made of modified hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is a natural substance already present in the body, and as we age, we can start to notice sagging cheeks, hollowed-out eyes, or thinning lips as skin loses its volume. Dermal fillers are a temporary way of restoring this volume without surgery. Another advantage is that their effects are reversible. An enzyme called hyaluronidase can be used to gently dissolve away the filler, although most patients are so happy with their new appearance that this a very rare request!

We offer a range of dermal fillers, all with different textures and characteristics. To help you best achieve your goals, we work with you to determine which ones to use and where to use them. For example, in areas like the cheeks, we use fillers that are slightly more viscous or thick. For the under-eye area, we often choose products that are less thick and will "settle in" better. For patients worried about submental fat (double chin), Kybella is an effective way to target fat specifically under the chin. Kybella uses deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that helps in the breakdown and absorption of fat. When injected, it destroys fat cells, resulting in less fullness under the chin. Good candidates are patients at a stable weight who are bothered by the fullness under their chin. Kybella can be used to target unwanted fat in other areas such as bra fat, jowls, banana roll (upper thigh), above the knees, buffalo hump, and abdomen. For optimal outcome a series of 2 to 6 treatments performed 6 weeks apart is recommended.
